Do You Know What a Bible Slant Is?

Hi Dear Ones,

Advanced Bible Study: Get out your Bibles!

A Bible slant is an intentional manipulation of a Bible scripture to have it conform to a certain doctrine or belief.  It is a human invention.

Then I read it.

Zechariah 4:6 ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit.’ says the LORD Almighty (New International Version)

As I wrote this I noted the capitalization of spirit as a slant intended to say that God’s spirit is a person and not his active force. It’s just the way that particular Bible is written. By the way, I never thought God’s spirit was a person. Subtle beyond subtle. I read the New International Version (NIV) 1984 paper edition cover to cover prior to learning the truth.

The same thing occurs in New International Version (NIV) at John 15:26 capitalization of spirit.

New World Translation (NWT) says “Not by a military force, nor by power, but by my spirit, Jehovah of armies has said,” small “s” (New World Translation published by Yehowah’s Witnesses) is correct.

Luke 3:22 and the holy spirit in bodily form like a dove came down upon him, and a voice came out of heaven: “You are my Son, the beloved; I have approved you.”

Note: holy spirit is not a person, it is sent, at Jesus’ baptism it was visually represented in bodily form like a dove not as a person.  This was done so John could identify Jesus as the Messiah.  It is normally invisible.  To learn more about holy spirit, click here.

The LORD said to my Lord

Look at Psalms 110:1 in New International Version 1984 edition it reads:

The LORD said to my Lord

Note: capitalization on LORD in Psalms 110:1 referring to the Hebrew Tetragrammaton (YHWH) which represents God’s name.

Look at Acts 2:34 which quotes it:

For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, “‘The Lord said to my Lord”

The first instance is not capitalized in Acts 2:34

This error also occurs in at least one King James version.

According to Deuteronomy 32:4 all God’s works are perfect.

New International Version (NIV) 1984 edition contradicts that statement.God is righteous, every precept is perfect. He knows us personally. Have faith. If you take the time, you will find that he is always a good friend and a genuine person. Trust him completely. Nothing bad is ever from God.

Bible slants are the result of human imperfection, not God.  Now when you approach Bible study you will understand, scripture must match scripture.  Humans taking liberties to support their beliefs is not unheard of.
